Oh, how I love to see what others are doing! As a self-published author who's received some very positive reviews for my fiction, I'm trying to take advantage of the opportunities to get my books in the hands of readers. Sure, I do the reader sites, like Goodreads and LibraryThing. But I knew I needed to do more. Recently, I had the good sense to focus on social media, as part of a business strategy.
That's when I found a very active author group, ASMSG. As I was getting acquainted with my fellow members, who number in the hundreds and live all over the globe, one thing popped out at me. There are so many baby boomers out there writing books!
You might think this is dismaying news. After all, it means I'm now competing with a very crowded field. But the truth is a number of this soon-to-be retired and retired boomers are actually very supportive of our generation's quest to reinvent ourselves and enjoy new careers.
What does that tell you? We've learned a lot over the years and we've grown as a result. Now it's time to spread the wisdom. What do my fellow baby boomer authors and I bring to the publishing world? A mix of encouragement for fellow writers, focus on making our new reputations as authors, a determination to get life right, and the realization that we have to take ourselves seriously enough to do all the hard work that goes into being successful.
What are we women baby boomers writing? You name it, we're covering it. Here are just a few samples of active ASMSG authors authentically living out loud:
Sassy Romance by Maureen Fisher
Jinx Schwartz, Sassy Texan
Susan Aylworth -- Stories That Examine the Human Heart
Maer Wilson -- Urban Fantasy
Regina Puckett -- We'll Fall in Love Together
Katherine L. Logan -- Historical Fiction (The Ruby Brooch)
Sara Barton Mysteries (This is me!)
I share these links to give you fellow baby boomers the encouragement you need to get off your duffs and get going. Whether you long to paint, to take to the stage, to tinkle those piano keys, or to share that story you've kept in the back of your mind all these years, this is the time to make things happen for yourself. Take advantage of your bodacious baby boomer years. Let these six women (and me!) inspire you to take chances. We're not talking shrinking violets here. These are vibrant, determined, and yes...even sassy women. Get busy!
